161: Mental Health Crisis in the US…Got It Covered!

Something that nobody is talking about today is the mental health crisis in the US that was exacerbated by the COVID pandemic.

A low-carb keto diet and genomic testing can do a lot to change that situation easily.

Now is the time to start!

Today, Dr. Karl will be going over the serious issue of mental illness in the US (and worldwide) that appears to have worsened since the pandemic. Mental illness includes severe depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, amongst others.

Dr. Karl decided to address the topic by sharing some interesting and relevant audio clips that focus on mental illness from a slightly different perspective. One of the clips comes from a comedy, and the other is from a PBS special coming up in June. After that, Dr. Karl talks about what he thinks can and should be done to manage those situations.

Genomic predisposition

Over the last 20 years, Dr. Karl has found depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia closely related because people tend to have a genomic predisposition to those conditions. People also tend to have a genomic predisposition to obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The methylation cycle

Depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder are closely related to the methylation and folic acid cycles. From Dr. Karl’s perspective, irregularities in the methylation process tend to be one of the first things to show up with mental illnesses because certain people have problems with methylating Vitamin B12 and folic acid appropriately.

Diet

Sometimes people have a predisposition to high or low blood sugars from the foods they eat. People tend to compensate by eating things that make them feel good when they are not feeling well due to their genetic mutations.

Two prongs

Dr. Karl looks at two prongs. One is people’s genomic predisposition, and the other is their diet. You can overcome a genomic mutation by changing your diet.

Mental health problems

Mental health problems have been induced in our culture largely due to the lack of nutrition in highly refined processed foods which were, for the most part, designed to be addictive.

Famine

Today, we are experiencing a famine in all but calories because the refined, processed food that people are eating is full of calories but devoid of nutrition.

It is possible

It is possible to overcome metabolic disorders relatively easily by identifying people’s genomic mutations and adjusting their diets accordingly.
